Pond Medic Algae Straw is a natural, eco-friendly solution for preventing algae and blanket weed growth in ponds and outdoor water features. As the straw slowly decomposes, it releases beneficial micro-organisms and natural compounds that help inhibit algae development, improving water balance, oxygen penetration, and overall pond health without the use of chemicals. Designed as a long-term preventative treatment, each 50 g bundle can treat up to 4,500 litres of water and remains effective for up to three months.
For best results, Algae Straw should be introduced in early spring before algae blooms occur and placed in a well-oxygenated area with good water circulation, such as near a fountain or waterfall. The product typically activates within 2–4 weeks, depending on water temperature, and works continuously once established. Bundles should be replaced every three months, ensuring they remain floating and do not fully decompose in the pond. To maintain effectiveness, avoid using chemical algaecides alongside Algae Straw, and if chemical treatments are required, remove the straw and reintroduce it only after a two-week waiting period.
